Small Business Development 2004
Cornell's Research Serves the Region: Small Business Development 2004 illustrates how technology transfer and outreach are achieved through small business development. It documents more than 100 small businesses that have emerged as a result of Cornell's extensive academic resources--people, research, and facilities.
Special Series on the Health of Upstate New York from the Metropolitan Policy Program of The Brookings Institute
This series by Cornell University's city and Regional Planning faculty examines the social and economic health of Upstate New York over the past two decades. It focuses on trends in Upstate as a whole, in the 11 major metropolitan areas that make up Upstate, and the six broad regions (such as Hudson Valley and Rochester/Finger Lakes) that are home to these metro areas and their surrounding rural counties. The analyses use data from the U.S. Census of Population and Housing, the Regional Economic Information System, County Business Patterns, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Resources Inventory. Listed below are four of the publications that are relevant to economic development.
New York Economic Development
This web site, sponsored by Professor Susan Christopherson of Cornell University's Department of City and Regional Planning, showcases recent research projects undertaken by Cornell researchers on economic development issues in New York State. Cornell University is uniquely positioned in the center of Upstate New York with research and extension offices in counties and cities across the state. Cornell researchers are currently working on a number of economic development projects which draw on the expertise of faculty, researchers, and centers throughout the university.
Community & Economic Renewal
The purpose of this web site, sponsored by the Community and Rural Development Insitute (CaRDI), is to provide citizens and local leaders with a basic background of community economic renewal concepts and tools.
Champions at Work
Champions at Work: Employment, Workplace Practices and Labor-Management Relations in Western New York is a study conducted by the Western Region of Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations, in cooperation with Buffalo Niagara Enterprise and the WNY AFL-CIO Economic Development Group, with the support of New York State.
